Boston Harbor Islands

Boston Harbor Islands —  from 30 distinct islands to a coordinated cluster of 1,600 acres across the harbor celebrating the natural, geological, and cultural resources readily accessible to Boston’s densely populated urban area.

A unique geological formation with deep Native American roots and a rich cultural history, the Boston Harbor Islands were long neglected as a community resource. An extensive community planning process resulted in the creation of the Boston Harbor Islands Partnership.

This successful public/private collaboration, coordinated by the National Park Service and the Commonwealth in consultation with many additional partners, works tirelessly to steward and provide access to thousands of urban residents each year.

After 25 years of focused investment and improvements in water quality, access, stewardship and engagement, the Boston Harbor Islands National Park is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a year-long focus on community engagement while strengthening its model partnership.
