Aquatic Park & Pier Project
Aquatic Park & Piers Project — from a shining WPA built site for outdoor recreation, to a neglected place in need of a vision for its future.
This beautiful site is part of the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park and neighbor to the Golden Gate National Recreation Area that houses Fort Mason Center for the Arts + Culture. It is underutilized and deteriorated. An updated plan for the site is needed to realize the unique potential of this portal to the parks along the Northern Waterfront of San Francisco.
A group of dedicated volunteers has initiated a planning project to develop a vision for Aquatic Pier, its neighboring park and nonprofit partner’s campus. It will be a community driven plan, engaging individuals and neighborhood groups to co-create programs and designs for a reimagined park. Engagement via innovative social distancing techniques is underway to learn from the community about their desires for the sites.
The City of San Francisco has committed funding and staff to the initiative as have the two National Parks and their park partners. Recently the Fort Mason Center for the Arts + Culture has joined the partnership in realizing a grand vision for the combined park district.
