The Maurice Stephens House,
Valley Forge National Historical Park
The Maurice Stephens House — From a vacant historic building in the heart of the park to a vibrant center for community engagement and park visitors.
The National Park Service (NPS) partnered with the Valley Forge Park Alliance (VFPA), through the NPS historic leasing program, to transform the long-vacant Maurice Stephens House into a gathering space to facilitate greater public access to the new trail system located in the recently remediated Grand Parade, thereby enhancing visitor understanding of the park’s purpose and significance.
This project was the first planning, design, and construction collaboration between NPS and VFPA. RBG was engaged to facilitate the development of a collaborative framework for communication and decision making, and to assist in negotiating a lease, developing a café design, defining a programming plan and creating a sustainable business model to ensure the success of the VFPA and its vendors. Red Bridge Group team members included CHM Government Service and Philip Scott Architecture.
